Abstract

The present study comprehensively evaluated the anti-ulcer and gastroprotective potential of the ethanolic flower extract of Tecoma stans using in vitro models. The extraction was performed via Soxhlet apparatus for 4 hours using ethanol, yielding 32.24%, indicative of a high concentration of phytoconstituents. Phytochemical screening confirmed the presence of flavonoids, alkaloids, phenolic acids, and tannins, compounds widely recognized for their antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities. The acid neutralizing capacity (ANC) assay revealed a dose-dependent increase in buffering potential, with the extract at 500 µg/ml exhibiting 89.3% acid neutralization, closely comparable to the standard Aluminium hydroxide + Magnesium hydroxide formulation (96.5%). The H⁺/K⁺-ATPase inhibition assay further demonstrated dose-dependent enzyme inhibition, with an IC₅₀ value of 106.1 µg/ml, compared to 28.4 µg/ml for Omeprazole, confirming moderate proton pump inhibitory activity. Future studies focusing on the evaluation of in-vivo anti-ulcer study and isolation and structural elucidation of bioactive compounds, along with molecular interaction studies, are warranted to further validate its clinical relevance.
